By taking a trek with us you get to see the island from a totally different perspective while you relax and get a chance to absorb the beautiful scenery that is all around you and hear about the history, flora and fauna of the landscape.

At Inishbofin Equestrian Centre we can provide a one on one lesson for beginners or refresher lessons in our outdoor arena. Our trekking routes can take you through over 800 acres of the islands landscape which includes trekking on minor roads, laneways, bog roads, green roads, over open commonage, island high points, passing by the islands boglands, forts, blow holes, mill stones, Stag rocks, memorial sites, historical sites and stunning views.

At Inishbofin Equestrian Centre you can take part in any of our three specialised nature based EcoTourism experiences:

Coastal Horse Riding Trek

Inishbofin is home to Ireland’s only island EcoToursim certified equestrian centre, and taking a trek around the island on horseback is one of the most tranquil and traditional ways of exploring its landscapes. During a one or two hour guided trek visitors cover a variety of coastal landscapes from coastal back roads to common pastures, sea cliffs to seashores. With never ending views out to the Connemara coast, surrounding Islands and the Twelve Bens mountain range across the bay, this Ecotourism Ireland certified equestrian experience is the best way to ease your way into life on Inishbofin.

Inishbofin’s Inland Trails on Horseback

Inishbofin is home to Ireland’s only island EcoToursim certified equestrian centre, and this trek takes riders into the island’s interior, along ancient bog roads, donkey and sheep trails, through the quiet village of Fawnmore to more elevated and exquisitely remote landscapes of Fawnmore and Middlequarter mountains. Not true 'mountains' , the highest point being 89m above sea level. But the truly stupendous sea views across to the Connemara coast, surrounding Islands and the Twelve Bens mountain range offer the perfect panorama from this perch on high.

Therapeutic Horse Riding

Not only is Inishbofin home to the only island EcoToursim certified equestrian centre in Ireland, it also offers Therapeutic Riding (TR) lessons for people with physical, cognitive, emotional and developmental disabilities. Therapeutic Riding has long been recognised as extremely beneficial in improving, for example, physical and emotional abilities. Offering accessible Therapeutic Riding on the island, delivered by qualified experts with one on one sessions to ensure the maximum benefit to the client, is something islanders are very proud of. And something worth travelling for. The emotional benefits of TR in such a remote, stunningly beautiful and welcoming environment using the TR method is hard to quantify, but the smiles on people’s faces and the feedback says it all.
